The Federal Aviation Administration will allow Xcel Energy to use drones to inspect the company’s power lines in lightly populated areas. Xcel wants to use the unmanned aerial devices to inspect lines in some inaccessible and environmentally sensitive areas. The company said it will conduct some field tests this summer.
