A developer in Maine is evaluating whether pumped storage – one of the oldest generation technologies still used on the New England grid – could play an increased role in the grid of the future.
Massachusetts has some of the strongest incentives for storage resources in the country, but its storage programs are lagging in their focus on equity and environmental justice, according to a report.
Battery storage remains largely reliant on state programs and subsidies to be viable in Massachusetts but could increasingly stand on its own as renewable energy proliferates, a panel of energy storage experts said.
