Local distribution companies and bulk transmission system operators need to improve their alignment, IESO CEO Lesley Gallinger said at the ENERCOM 2026 conference.

Canada should expect turbulent relations with the United States to continue under the Trump administration, speakers said at the Ontario Electricity Distributors Association’s ENERCOM conference.

The Ontario government’s efforts to align IESO and the Ontario Energy Board to make the province an energy “superpower” was the dominant theme at the 2025 Ontario Energy Conference.

Ontario is putting its chips on nuclear power and natural gas to meet its growing energy demand while directing IESO to incorporate gas distributors and the province’s economic development goals in its system planning.

IESO has 37.2 GW of installed capacity and 18,640 miles of transmission, both ranked seventh among the nine organized markets in the U.S. and Canada.
